About Us

We're a wife and husband team, Andrea and Erin Collier, who took over this fabulous store called Curtis Fabrics, Waipukurau, Central Hawke's Bay (half way between Hastings and Dannevirke), 1st November 2020. 

We moved here to escape the Wellington winters, for a smaller mortgage and to avoid the inevitable big earthquake (which happened a few years later).  I'd always shopped at Curtis Fabrics as it reminded me of my childhood growing up in Tawa and the craft store that I spent all my pocket money in.

I think I started sewing when I was about 12 after doing sewing classes at Tawa Intermediate, Wellington in the 80's.

I had always made things, and wasn't that great at it, but loved the satisfaction of sewing my own clothes. My Auntie Sandie could make anything; my Grandmother, Jean Tonks, sewed a lot including knits; and our neighbour as kids in Tawa, and second Grandma, Mrs (Betty) Lumley, was an amazing sewer.
