Most dress making fabrics are are 150cm wide but that's where the similarities end.  They come in wide range of colours, patterns, textures, thicknesses, composition and their uses are also as varied depending on the occasion.  

Also have a look at the Craft Cotton Fabrics - 100% cotton, in high quality prints and a huge range of designs.  These don't have to be used exclusively for quilting or crafting.  I love using them for 50's style dresses and Hawaiian shirts
