Prewash before sewing just incase there is any shrinkage in the cotton.

We have a great family portrait from the 90's and everyone is wearing a denim shirt and to make a denim shirt you need Chambray.
Looks like denim but is a nice, soft shirt weight perfect for recreating that denim shirt you loved so much.
Check out McCalls pattern M6044 for a super, simple shirt pattern includinig a western style variation with the yoke at the shoulders front/back. This is now my go to pattern for Hawaiian shirts.
